Radioactive.........

Remember when SNL was funny? Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, Steve Martin, and others. So good! I am thinking of a specific Steve Martin skit.

Steve, I was thinking of something to say but can’t remember what it was.

Person 2, I guess it couldn’t have been very important.

Steve, Now I remember, I am radioactive. Shake?

Perhaps more recent history is the song - Radioactive - by Imagine Dragons released in 2012. This song and skit have been occupying space in my tiny little brain as of late. My MRI back in September showed some growth of my lesion that is on the liver. Fortunately, the MRI in October did not show any additional growth or spreading of the cancer. The only reason for it to grow is that it has figured a way around the immunotherapy I have been getting for the last two years. Actually, tomorrow I receive my 24th and final infusion, but that is a story for another day. Back to the premise of today’s musings.

I have a consultation appointment on Monday, November 9, regarding radiation treatment. I am extremely fortunate that I only have the one lesion on my liver. Hopefully, the radiation will significantly reduce or eradicate the lesion. But as Dr. Kim reminded me, it does not in any way prevent others from popping up. I guess you could compare it to the game Whack-A-Mole.

I had not really given any thought to any side effects of the radiation until my Uber ride from the Sacramento Airport to home. A nice guy, but he was 6’8’’ and told me he got his Golden Gloves at 16. OK, Nick - just be nice and agree with everything he says. He proceeded to share with me that a punch to the liver area will drop a guy. Good to know. Now I cannot compare a punch to radiation but have to wonder a bit about the pain/burning of the radiation. So I can add that to the song and skit that occupy my mind. Oh well. At least for the first time in my life, people can come up and say - Nick, you really have a glow about you.

Stay Strong, Be Kind, Be Humble, and God Bless!
