Not the Best Anniversary..........

About two years ago at this time I was advised that my Ocular Melanoma had metastasized to my liver.  This past week I had my MRI, CT Scan, labwork and infusion. The infusion is no big deal but for not being a fan of the IV poke.  It mostly gives me a quiet hour to read my book or bore the nurses with my musings.

Anyway, the labwork and CT Scan were fine but not so much the MRI. It showed some growth of the lesion(s) and shadowing around it. Perhaps somewhat ironically, I was slated to only receive two more infusions of immunotherapy - October and November. And then a free man but for a few MRI’s and CT’s next year. Oh well. I actually thought it odd that I stopped all treatment. It is not like the cancer is gone. I guess I got my rather perverse wish of ongoing care.

I am slated to get another MRI in early October and in all likelihood will begin radiation treatment. We will see how it goes. When this journey began I am HLA negative and was not eligible for Kimmitrak. I became part of a clinical trial. I was not picked for the experimental drug. I have received two infusions of Yervoy and Opdivo and 20 infusions of Opdivo. The drugs had managed the disease very well up until this September. I cannot remember the name of the experimental drug but it has shown promise and may be FDA approved before years end - and my oncologist indicated I may be eligible.

I am curious to see what the coming months hold. But in the meantime - live your life. Take the trip, Buy the outfit, Eat at the fancy restaurant, Visit the grandkids. Whatever your budget is - kick it up just a bit. Life is short.

A few photos of me and Lila. She is a Daddy’s girl but has been paricularly close this past week. Dogs are smarter than us. Just Saying……
